Confusion – A Tribute to Deep Purple

Confusion is a rock cover band formed in 1986 at Cégep Édouard-Montpetit, following a chance meeting between guitarist Thierry Lacombe and bassist Georges Simard at the student café. Thierry invited keyboardist-guitarist François "Fritz" Rainville to join the band, while Georges recruited drummer Pierre Koch, with whom he played in the Préville Jazz Band. Together, they built a repertoire of classic rock songs and a few progressive rock pieces. Their setlist featured music by Pink Floyd, The Doors, Deep Purple, Genesis, Rush, ZZ Top, Marillion, Led Zeppelin, and many others. The band performed numerous shows at college parties, university events, and bars. Confusion eventually took a break while Georges and Pierre pursued college and university studies in music. Meanwhile, Thierry and Fritz formed the French-language rock band SOS CARGO. Their three albums and music videos allowed them to tour Eastern Canada for several years. Several of their songs received extensive airplay on FM radio stations, with some reaching the Top 3 on Radio-Activité. That chapter came to an end in 1996. Thierry focused on producing studio albums for bands such as Groovy Aardvark, Noir Silence, Morse Code, Grim Skunk, and others, while also working in live sound production. His longtime collaborator Fritz pursued other musical projects (No1INo, Jimmy Darling, etc.) alongside his work as a sound mixer at Radio-Canada. While completing his studies in electrical engineering, Georges joined the band 6 AM, whose songs and live performances gained recognition across Quebec. After earning his bachelor's degree in percussion, Pierre joined Groovy Aardvark in 1996 and remains a member to this day. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the original members of Confusion reunited, with the exception of Pierre, to reconnect with the stage. They recruited Danny Peake, the original drummer of Groovy Aardvark. Vocalists Nancy Desmarais and Philippe Harvey joined the band in 2023, performing several rock concerts. However, their commitments to other projects (Back to the 80's, Made in Iron, etc.) eventually led them to leave the band. Danny also stepped away to focus on Groovy Aardvark and an Iron Maiden tribute band. In 2024, following the restoration of their 1965 Hammond B3 organ, Thierry, Georges, and Fritz decided to take on a new project: creating a tribute show dedicated to the legendary British rock band **Deep Purple**. To take on this ambitious challenge, they recruited drummer
