Pianiste / Chanteuse
Pianist / Singer
We all noticed her on La Voix II, where the singer-pianist performed “Très sympathique” by Pink Martini under a truly distinctive stage name: VALECTRA! Within just a few seconds, all four judges turned their chairs and competed to have her join their team. Originally from Havre-Saint-Pierre, Quebec, Valérie Cormier discovered her passion for piano at the age of five. That passion eventually led her to earn a bachelor’s degree in classical and jazz music. For several years, Valérie worked as a pianist, keyboardist, and accordionist, accompanying artists such as Éric Lapointe, Lhasa de Sela, Normand Brathwaite, Richard Petit, Dan Tyler Watson, Alain François Lamontagne, and The Box. Touring with these artists took her across Canada, the United States, Europe, Morocco, and all the way to Singapore. In 2009, Valérie stepped into the spotlight herself, driven by the desire to sing her own songs, compose her own music, and launch her solo career. She began performing under the artist name Valectra, developing a sound rooted in lounge, chill-out, and deep tempo music. As an independent artist, she created her own record company, Spin Gloss Records, and writes, produces, and records her music in her own studio. Valectra’s music has been featured in the film Omerta, the television series Lance et Compte, and several web series.
